02. Points Program Setup
The points program is the core of Panza. Here you configure how many points your customers earn per purchase, what the points are called, and when they expire.
Points Rate per Purchase
Define how many points are awarded per amount spent. For example:
- 1 point per $1 spent: If a customer buys $50, they earn 50 points.
- 5 points per $10 spent: If a customer buys $50, they earn 25 points.
Configured in Loyalty Plan > General Settings.
Program Name and Points Name
Customize what your program and points are called:
- Program Name: For example, "Rewards Club", "Star Points", or whatever you prefer.
- Points Name: You can change "points" to another word like "stars" or "coins". Configured in singular and plural.
Configured in Loyalty Plan > General Settings.
Program Participants
Define who earns points:
- All customers: Any customer who buys earns points automatically, whether registered or not.
- Members only: Only customers explicitly registered in the program earn points.
Configured in Loyalty Plan > Ways to Earn > When you buy.
Sign-up Points
Offer welcome points when a customer registers for the first time. Registration happens automatically when the customer visits the loyalty panel for the first time. If set to 0, no sign-up points are awarded.
Configured in Loyalty Plan > Ways to Earn > When you sign up.
Points Expiration
Control whether points have an expiry date:
- Enabled: Points that aren't used within a period (in days) expire automatically. The default period is 360 days.
- Disabled: Points never expire.
Expiration works on a rolling window: points from each transaction expire X days after being earned, if they haven't been consumed.
Configured in Loyalty Plan > General Settings.
How Points Are Calculated
Each member has three point counters:
- Available Points: Points that can be used to redeem rewards. Calculated as: total earned - total spent - total expired.
- Current Period Points: Points earned within the rolling window. Used to determine VIP tier.
- Lifetime Points: Total points earned throughout the customer's entire history in the program.
When a customer redeems points, they are consumed from the oldest transactions first (FIFO). This means the points closest to expiring are used first.
